Blog 14 - Micheal Jackson

Micheal Jackson was named as the "King of Pop" throughout his amazing influential style and long living career in the pop music industry, his groundbreaking pop songs lead the way for future pop songs and future pop music videos as he was the first to even use the tactics that we know are used so widely in pop videos in today's time.

This was Micheal Jackson's first major hit as a pop star, although at this time he wasn't known as Micheal Jackson he was known as part of the group he was in with his 4 brothers known as "The Jackson 5". This hit was the first major pop music video ever made and has most of the characteristics within the video that we would normally see today. For example the frequent dance routines throughout the music video whilst the members of the band are singing the song. Micheal jacksons music career did nothing but skyrocket to success from this video.

The next major hit to add to Micheal Jackson's long and successful career was that of the widely viewed Billie Jean. This pop video was seen as Micheal Jackson's first major hit as a solo artist without him being a part of the Jackson 5 with his 4 brothers. This was also his first pop video that followed its own specific storyline instead of just endless dance routines and lip syncing. By this point in time Micheal Jackson was well on the path to being considered the most popular pop artist of this time.

The next big video that Micheal Jackson produced was that of "Beat It" this pop video was massivly influential in many ways. it was one of the first ever pop videos to have that much of a well thought out group choreography scene throughout the last part of the video. This adds to good-wins pop video features for the frequent choreographed dance scenes. This video is also very popular because of the well throughout synopsis running through the video with the turf war and the gang violence breaking into dance in the middle of the street.

This music video is easily considered the most famous music video of all time selling almost 9 million tapes in the form of VHS's and thus earning the Guineas world record for the highest grossing pop video. This was the first video to include this much detail of elaborate choreography with an extensive use of costumes and dialogue. the main version of the thriller music video runs 14 minutes long, however MTV shortens this down into a 4 minute music video for the viewers with the only scenes included being the natural and stereotypical pop video scenes such as the dance scenes and singing parts. This music video costs half a million dollars to make, making it easily one of the most expensive pop videos to produce at this time. The very well known "Thriller" dance move that is showcased many times throughout this video has become one of the music well known dance moves ever made and almost everyone who knows the song or doesn't knows about this particular move.

Leading up to this video there was many rumors of Micheal Jackson getting plastic surgery and trying to bleach his skin to make him  practically white. This meant the lead up to the release of this video was widely anticipated not just because of the fans wanting to see his new material so badly but also because people wanted to see what he officially looked like after this supposed changes that the media have carried on publicizing. This video was aired on the massive British TV channel known as BBC at midnight of its release, this proves just how popular Micheal Jackson has become up to this point.

Because of the rumors of Micheal Jackson trying to change his skin colour throughout the past few years he had lost quite a few fans out of his black fan-base and as an attempt to earn them back he released this video, in hopes to shun all the accusations saying that he is racist or not proud of his born skin colour. This was also use to try and resurrect his career in general as up to this point there was many many accusations of him being quite strange as well as a child abuser/pedophile. And for this reason he released this video and song in hopes to earn back all of the fans that he had potentially lost through all these media outbursts and targeting's.
